Jeudi 28.12.06 Fancy Flying Fergal
The good thing about Christmas is that you eat well for rest of the week. I’m still feasting on supplementary smoked salmon and leftover lemon meringue pie. I may feel full but I don’t feel bad about gorging myself as we’re off on our holidays today and need to clean out the fridge. I think Nicola started to raid the fridge last night as she discovers a melted chocolate mess on her bedspread...
There’s a lot of hanging around done today; not just on our side as we hang out washing and hang around the house, but in Dublin too. Fergal, my boyfriend, is making the trip from Dublin to Paris/Charles-de-Gaulle to Paris/Orly, and from there to Martinique. He was supposed to travel with Pam and Dan but the passport mishap has left them waiting all day in the passport office on Molesworth Street.
Since we’re two people down and have already reserved the rooms we decide to invite Chris along too. He’s only too happy to have a proper holiday. Fort-de-France is not the true Mecca for tourists and so we’ll be heading up to Trinité on the North-East coast for some truly touristy times.
The car is loaded and we’re ready to launch. Lift-off is not so easy but we make it out of Fort-de-France and arrive at the airport well in advance to greet Fergal. Natives, Frenchies, Chinese, African’s and other nationalities filter past us before Fergal appears. Fergal’s Irish, and so he’s Paddy last. Though good things come to those who wait, and I have been waiting three months, five days and 20 hours to unwrap my Christmas presents.
My bubbly Bulmers fix exploded in Fergal’s backpack leaving that soft, cider smell clinging to his clothes. However, Nicola’s Guinness makes it intact and so does the bottle of Jameson which we’ll save for a special occasion. Thankfully the other gifts have escaped the effervescence and sweet scent of the cider. Fergal has got me an Ipod, a Bosco DVD and a hoard of chocolate. I revel in the packet of Revels for the rest of the night. Fergal’s Mum, Mary, sent me a CD and my own parents have sent me a new digital camera which is quite flashy. So thank you one and all for my belated but much appreciated gifts.
I still have the biggest present of all to unwrap so I’ll wrap up now…
