Diamant Geezer - dimanche, 15.04.07

dimanche 15.04.07 Diamant Geezer

I noticed that Alex wasn’t his usual jovial self last night and today I find out that he broke up with Amandine. He’s a bit of a wild thing and it’s not normal to see him so subdued. Himself, Lionel and I decide to make the most of the rest of the weekend and so we take to the road and head south. The guys haven’t been to see the sights around Diamant so I ditch my job as co-pilot and become a tour-guide instead. It feels like the umpteenth time I’ve been to the convict’s house, La Maison du Bagnard, and the colossal white statues at Le Mémorial de L’Anse Cafard but there’s always something new to remark – or some new marks to leave in the crook’s gaff! We scramble down to the waves for a while before starting off on the search for grub. The cheap and cheerful oriental restaurant has served me well before so I direct the guys towards the dumpling and Pac Choy destination.

The beach is next on our list. The guys wander off to buy souvenirs and refreshments while I take in the sights and screams of the crazies in the water; the waves are wild here. The bronzed Beach Bums return with ice-cream. They top up their tans; one uses the real deal and the other resorts to fake bake. Lionel’s run of bad luck isn’t over as he misplaces the key, scrapes the underside of the car off the kerb and almost has us sleeping on the beach as our petrol reserve starts blinking violently in the wilds of Anse d’Arlets.

While we’re at Anse d’Arlets we decide to hit Ti Sable. The music is strange and shit is being smoked everywhere but we content ourselves with the BBQ. I hold the table while the lads queue for ages. A bit of amicable chat, good food and a strategically selected seat soon see Alex back in form. We’re so full that we’d gladly waddle unto the beach for the night but work beckons tomorrow.

Nicola has sent out an S.O.S. Oliver has tracked her down in the Terminal. There are only two bars which she frequents in Fort-de-France so it’s no wonder he has bumped into her but Nic has other theories. We all have our own suspicions… When we arrive we find Nicola surrounded by Dorian and Nicolas. She seems to be in her element – though she could be out of her depth. It isn’t good to cry wolf!
