samedi 14.04.07 Serenaded with sausages

The guys have gone car crazy this weekend. At least they’re only colour-blind and not totally blind. I could have sworn I saw a pink Twingo last night. Oli has a blue pop-art Twingo too and Lionel gets a greying silver 206.

The bus eventually arrives and I get into town in time to get picked up by Lionel, J.V and Ludo. We’re beach-bound but it’s already lunchtime and some sustenance is required. Oli is also coming along… in his own time, and on his own! We hit Snack Elize at Madiana. I totally forgot there was a Snack Elize in Fort-de-France but at least we’re fully full and already halfway to our sandy destination.

Carbet beach is our spot for the afternoon. Nic and Dorian are at Prêcheur but we leave the two love-birds too it; we have enough on our hands anyway as we have to mind our absent-minded Martiniquan mate who insists on going A.W.O.L. Oli returns to find us at the beach bar; at least he knew where to find us! Oli’s poisse hasn’t been totally dealt out as he parks beside a signpost and almost knocks the back door off his car. Bad luck is contagious and Lionel’s about to have a bad run of it… His back is still at him and he has been breaking glasses lately.

There’s a mega BBQ planned for the popote so we stop by Géant for provisions. There’s a mini earthquake but thankfully there are no more breakages throughout the evening. The BBQ is a fine affair, ie. there’s lots of grub and lots of lads. The food is good but there are some weirdoes to watch. One guy, David, is very intense. He tells me that his wife is an English teacher and that she has exams coming up. Am I bothered? Apart from that the rest of the evening passes pleasantly and while Chris and Gwendal hit the tiles the rest of us pop into the Terminal.

Nic’s there with two bearded French marines and they’re being serenaded by Marc and Pascal who attended our Paddy’s Day celebrations. They’ve some funny songs about navy food, the motion in the ocean and their colleagues. My favourite is called The four old guys I love which is a parody about their superiors.
