Abolition d’Esclavage - mardi, 22.05.07

Mardi 22.05.07 Abolition d’Esclavage

This morning I finally set about doing my work for La Semaine des Langues. By lunchtime I’ve my huge cardboard cat, fish and dog scenes made for our opening song: Who’s the King of the Jungle? I’m tuned into Maxxi FM so the work is done to pumping tunes similar to those we can hear on the beach on this public holiday to commemorate the abolition of slavery.

Nicola has spent all morning thinking about her divorce from Dorian. They parted on not-so-nice terms and she concocts ways to win him back. Thankfully she ditches the idea of serenading him Love-Actually style but something equally as drastic will no doubt take place.

We’ve both been house-bound all day due to different degrees of work and weariness so we decide to opt for a leisurely evening out in Point du Bout. I feel like gorging myself on ice-cream but once we hit La Malibu its salad and chips all round. Neither Nic nor I like olives and so we leave them on our napkins. The olives are lying there like shiny black jewels ready for some magpie to nab when who should come along, plonk himself beside us and start munching on our leftovers but the Magpie Man himself, Fabrice. He apologies for his abrasive behaviour of late but within minutes he is ping-ponging himself back and forth between us and a group of Frenchies who also don’t seem to be so thrilled with his presence.

Dessert is a sacred affair so Nic and I abandon our so-called new best friend and head to the marina for ice-cream before finishing off with a final Carib at La Cabane. Some guy keeps glancing at us over the menu board and when we finally set off for home he follows us, asks for a light and starts to converse with us. He’s a ski instructor from Chamonix near Mont Blanc and is here for a week’s holiday. Enjoy your stay but watch out for the resident Magpie Man!
