Plenty more fish in the sea - dimanche, 20.05.07

Dimanche 20.05.07 Plenty more fish in the sea

There’s not much to do today except go to the beach, soak up the sun and re-hydrate! Water, carbonated drinks and sorbet are pumped into my body as we listen to thumping tunes on this holiday weekend. It’s the commemoration of L’Abolition d’esclavage and so everyone’s free from slavery for ever and free from work and school tomorrow and Tuesday.

Zee Jermans said they’d come over to the beach today but only Guido makes it as Wolfgang is in bed – doctor’s orders! There are lots of other Germans on the beach and they salute us and our beach buddy as they pass en masse.

It’s time for tea so we head to Point du Bout for grub and gargles. We spy Fabrice and Guido jokes that he’ll just sit down beside us and pick up (or at!) the conversation. He does come over but he doesn’t plonk himself beside us until Guido points to the empty seat opposite him. It may have been a test in jest but it’s the last thing we want. A friendly Canadian behind us asks if he can join in too as he hasn’t spoken English in ages. Nic and I decide to nip off and leave the lads to savour one another’s company while we check out clothes and our bank accounts. We eventually return and rescue Guido and we set off to La Cabane for more liquids and more annoying vendors until the next navette pulls in.
